Indiana has joined a whistleblower lawsuit accusing the parent company of Brown Mackie College and the Art Institute of Indianapolis of illegally paying commissions to student recruiters.
The suit claims Pittsburgh-based Education Management Corp., a Wall Street-traded company, violated federal law by paying commissions and other perks to recruiters partially based on the number of students they signed up. Among the rewards were vacations to Las Vegas and Cancun, Mexico, the lawsuit alleges.
